Three of the most common Chevrolet, Dodge & GMC manual transmission problems are:
Question/Problem #1
1991 Silverado 5 Speed trans problem Ver telenovela pedro el escamoso online gratis.
Today while driving on the highway something went crazy with the transmission. I went to down shift from 4th to second for a stoplight and the gear shift just seemed to float wherever it wanted. It took some time to find 1st gear to pull away from the stop light. After finding the correct gear and making sure of the position of the gearshift handle I went to shift to second and slid into 4th. After some playing around I was able to get it shift again but when I went to back up it would not go into reverse. After a lot of pulling and pushing on the gear shift I got it into reverse and backed in. There seems to be way to much travel in the shift handle. Is this a sign of a worn shift fork or something broke in the transmission case?
Answer #1
We assume your transmission is the late model 1991 version with the second-generation shifter, this model has a stamped steel reaction plate around the shift pod under the shifter assembly that controls the shifter. The reaction plates have a tendency to break and cause the sloppy symptom you are describing. To repair this problem: take the boot off the top of the transmission inside the cab by removing the 4 bolt shifter assembly. With the assembly out you can inspect the reaction plate and determine if this is the problem. If it is we can supply a new updated 4 bolt shifter assembly. Simply pry the stamped steel reaction plate and remove it and install the updated shifter. This can all be done without removing the transmission.
Another problem might be a broken roll pin controlling the shifting of the unit and that would require the transmission to be removed and disassembled to be repaired.

92 Sierra w/ HM290 Getrag, NV3500 5speed and no 2nd gear
![Nv3500 Technical Manual Nv3500 Technical Manual](https://www.vividracing.com/wm.php/images/RMT3500D-5-GJSP.jpg)
Ok guys I made mention in my intro that my truck (92 Sierra, ext cab, 235K, 5.7, 5 speed) has no 2nd gear. We gotten used to going from 1st to 3rd with nary a problem, I just accelerate a little higher in 1st and lug her a little in 3rd but honestly it not that bad at all as the 5.7 has plenty of power to overcome. I’ve even pulled trailers, towed cars and hauled fairly heavy loads with no problem. It’s just a matter of using what you have I guess, and adapting. It shifts great, no noise, smooth as silk and been like that for at least the 4 years I’ve had the truck BUT when I go into 2nd gear and release the clutch its like it just isn’t there. It goes in fine, stays there, and doesn’t make any sounds its like it’s just not even there.
Answer: #2
From your description I would suspect that the engagement hub has sheered off the gear, this is what the synchronizer slider would lock onto that allows it to pull in 2nd gear. This can really be the only thing it is seeing as it goes into 1st gear just fine both of these are on the same fork.

Question/Problem #3
I own a 1995 S-10, Ext Cab, 5-Speed Manual NV3500 transmission. Have been playing with this transmission for the past three years trying to figure out why the system is so erratic. The problems are:
– Hard to shift at lower speeds. At times I really have to shove the gear shift into 1st gear when stopped. Must shove the clutch almost through the floor in order to shift. Gets worse once the truck has warmed up. No grinding noise, just extremely hard to put into gear.
– Periodically when shifting from 1st to 2nd, the stick shift will pop out of second.
– When in a stopped position, as I attempt to shift, I can hear this “deep clunk” sound when moving the gear shift between 1st and 2nd, as if the gears are not aligned properly. I have to then literally shove the gear shift into first.

– No apparent issues above speeds of 30MPH
Answer #3
Sounds like a clutch / hydraulic issue causing most of the problems. If the transmission shifts real hard in the lower gears at slow speed and better at highway speeds then there is definitely an issue in the clutch assembly and or hydraulic system.
We suggest you start by replacing the slave cylinder as it is the easiest and cheapest to do first order our part number MWTLSC124 your cost $70.90 for a OE replacement, plus S&H.
It that does not remedy the problem the second thing we would recommend is changing the clutch order our part number MET04-168 your cost is $225.00 for a OEM replacement. When you install the clutch be sure you install the disc properly, you would not believe how many people get it backwards.
General Information about NV3500 5 Speed Manual Transmission
Leaks NV3500 HM290
Leaks can be caused by overfills as well as by seal issues. If a leak shows up at the rear of the extension or adapter housing, it is likely from the housing seals; if it shows up at the front, it could be the front bearing retainer or the retainer seal. Other leaks, where components meet, could be due to problems with the sealer or incorrect bolt tightening.

Leaks can cause extensive damage if not fixed and can destroy the clutch.
Noise NV3500 HM290
Nv3500 Technical Manual Pdf
Normal noises include an audible whine at extreme speeds; other noises are usually due to lubricant issues. Hard shifting, noise, wear, and internal binding are usually caused by lubricant issues — dirty gear oil, low levels, or the wrong lubricant. Chrysler and GM, respectively, recommended Mopar Manual Transmission Lubricant (4874464) or GM Synchromech Transmission Fluid (US 12377916)

Hard shifting can also be caused by clutch maladjustments or damaged clutch components.
Worn synchro rings can result in gear clash when going into forward gears (though they can stick somewhat in new or recently rebuilt transmissions, leading to hard or noisy shifting, which gets better as the rings wear in).
